Finished at last!

Several people emailed to say they were disappointed not to see the second pieced landscape from last week's DMTV video finished. It was only meant to illustrate the individual steps of construction but of course I never start anything I can't finish so I here it is on the right with the original version next to it!

I wanted the two panels to relate to each other but for the detail to be quite different. In the second piece I added my favourite metallic paint to make the quilted shapes really pop.

I also added a little texture to the moon - keeping it discreet by working white on white.

Thank you for nagging me to get it finished - I actually rather like the piece! Let's hope someone else likes them enough to want to buy them when we get around to adding them to our online store!

Bye for now,
Linda

  1. It is really very beautiful. And I love the paint, must me the lumière, I suppose. And poppy seeds work well all the time. Thanks for sharing (and finishing!).

  2. WOW! Love them both! Now I need to read 'back' and find the first postings.

    Lovely, lovely shapes. So elegant.

  3. Truly beautiful, Linda. I gathered up a bunch of Oriental poppy heads today to use this winter. I wonder why we all love this flower head? Cheers.

  5. Hi Linda, they're very nice, perhaps not hung together?

  6. I just finished watching the new show about gouache. Fascinating. Of course I had literally just pressed the "order" button at Dick Blick for a huge supply order but was able to contact them by phone and have a tube of zinc white added. Phew! I had already bought a pint of India ink for sketching which I do with a soft pointed tip brush. When you put your book under the faucet, I thought, "Why not slip the under pages into a plastic bag to keep the water off?" I am looking forward to trying this technique.

  7. Thanks everyone who's taken the time to comment - I do appreciate it!

Greeninthemiddle - I didn't intend them to hang together but just did that for the blog picture. I've been working on a larger quilt with the same fabrics and theme. Should I decide to exhibit all three pieces the panels could hang either side of the quilt but probably they'll just be sold individually.

Beth, with the large sketchbook I slipped a sheet of thin acetate under the page I'm washing and that worked. When I'm using small altered books I find it's OK just to bend all of the pages except the one I want to wash back and hold them in my left hand while I use my right to gently wipe the loose page. No doubt you'll find a way that suits you!
